American Pharoah Blazes Six Furlongs at Del Mar

In his first workout of the year at Del Mar racetrack, Triple Crown winner American Pharoah turned in a brilliant six-furlong breeze, going the distance in a rapid 1:11 2/5.

Trained by Bob Baffert, the son of Pioneeerof the Nile started off with fractions of :24 flat, :36 1/5, and :59 1/5, according to a tweet from Del Mar. With regular exercise rider Martin Garcia in the saddle, American Pharoah then galloped out seven furlongs in 1:24 2/5 and a mile in 1:38 2/5.

The workout was American Pharoah’s fourth since winning the Belmont Stakes (gr. I) on June 6th, and came one week after he breezed five furlongs in :59 1/5 at Santa Anita Park.
