Bolo Entered in Turf Allowance Race on Friday

Bolo, who finished third in the San Felipe Stakes (gr. II) and Santa Anita Derby (gr. I) before running 12th in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), has been entered to race on May 29th in a nine-furlong turf allowance race at Santa Anita.

Trained by Carla Gaines, the son of Temple City stamped himself as a turf horse with a very bright future when he scored a remarkably easy victory in the one-mile Eddie Logan Stakes on the Santa Anita turf on December 27th, 2014. The quest for the Kentucky Derby temporarily sidetracked Bolo’s turf career, but the colt will return to his preferred surface on Friday with an eye on starting in the $1.25 million Belmont Derby (gr. I) on July 4th.

Bolo will face four rivals in Friday’s allowance race, including Alcatraz Stakes winner Sky Preacher and La Puente Stakes runner-up Hero Ten All. The complete entries are as follows:

1 Hero Ten All, Tyler Baze, Jeff Mullins
2 Royal Albert Hall, Flavien Prat, Doug O’Neill
3 Blue Harbor, Corey Nakatani, Mark Casse
4 Sky Preacher, Alex Solis, Doug O’Neill
5 Bolo, Rafael Bejarano, Carla Gaines
