California Chrome Draws Post 6 in Prince of Wales’s Stakes

2014 U.S. Horse of the Year California Chrome has drawn post position six in the June 17th Prince of Wales’s Stakes (Eng-I) on the second day of the prestigious Royal Ascot meet.

The son of Lucky Pulpit, who won the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) and Preakness Stakes (gr. I) last year, has not run since finishing second in the $10 million Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) on March 28th at Meydan. In preparation for his run in the Prince of Wales’s, California Chrome has been training extensively at Newmarkert with British trainer Rae Guest.

The ten-furlong Prince of Wales’s has drawn a very deep and competitive field that also includes 2014 Irish Champion Stakes (Ire-I) winner The Grey Gatsby, the lightly-raced but promising Free Eagle, and the Japanese group I winner Spielberg, as well as Gailo Chop and Criterion.

The complete entries are as follows:

Prince of Wales’s Stakes (Eng-I)
1 The Grey Gatsby, Jamie Spencer, Kevin Ryan
2 Cannock Chase, Ryan Moore, Sir Michael Stoute
3 Western Hymn, Frankie Dettori, John Gosden
4 Free Eagle, Pat Smullen, Dermot Weld
5 Spielberg, Christopher Soumillon, Kazuo Fujisawa
6 California Chrome, William Buick, Art Sherman
7 Criterion, Chad Schofield, David Hayes
8 Ectot, Gregory Benoist, E. Lellouche
9 The Corsican, Jim Crowley, David Simcock
10 Gailo Chop, Julien Auge, A. De Watrigant

(please note that the post position numbers differ from the program numbers that are used for wagering.)
