2015 Kentucky Derby (gr. I) starters Far Right, War Story, Tencendur, and Mr. Z, as well as Preakness Stakes (gr. I) runners Divining Rod and Bodhisattva, are among the nine horses that have been entered to run in the $500,000 Ohio Derby on June 20th at Thistledown.
But despite the presence of so many Triple Crown veterans, the favorite to win the 8.5-furlong race is Whiskey Ticket, narrow winner on the Illinois Derby (gr. III) at Hawthorne in April. Trained by Bob Baffert, the son of Ghostzapper is unbeaten in two starts thus far, having won his debut at Santa Anita in March, and has posted a lengthy series of sharp workouts at Churchill Downs in preparation for this race.
