Horse of the Week 3-16-16: Tepin

Congratulations to the champion mare Tepin, whose impressive victory in the Hillsborough Stakes (gr. III) at Tampa Bay Downs has earned the title of “Horse of the Week” on The Turf Board!

In a poll on The Turf Board’s Twitter page, Tepin prevailed with 50% of the votes, while San Felipe Stakes (gr. II) winner Danzing Candy finished second with 36% and Tampa Bay Derby (gr. II) winner Destin rounded out the voting with 14%.

In the Hillsborough Stakes, Tepin was content to race in third early on as Isabella Sings opened up an 18-length early lead, but when Tepin was asked to run in the homestretch, she unleashed a terrific late run to close the gap and prevail by a length in the course-record time of 1:46.26 seconds, good for a Beyer speed figure of 107.

Tepin’s next start is expected to come in the April 15th Maker’s 46 Mile (gr. I) at Keeneland, where she is expected to face a quality field led by by the multiple graded stakes winner Heart to Heart.
