The very promising maiden winner I Will Score is scheduled to return from an injury-induced layoff when he runs in a 6 1/2-furlong allowance optional claiming race at Santa Anita on January 3rd.
Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, the son of Roman Ruler won his debut on September 11th at Los Alamitos in impressive fashion, setting a fast pace before drawing away to win by 6 1/4 lengths in the time of 1:03.04 for 5 1/2 furlongs. A minor injury has prevented him from running since then, but I Will Score–a colt that Hollendorfer has spoken highly of–has posted a lengthy and impressive series of workouts in preparation for his return, most recently going four furlongs from the starting gate in :47 flat on December 27th. He will start from the rail in Sunday’s race and will be ridden by Mike Smith.
Among his six rivals are Street Vision, runner-up in the Speakeasy Stakes; Rockin Bayou, making his first start since a fourth-place finish in the Del Mar Futurity (gr. I); and the recent maiden winners Uncle Lino and Iron Rob. The complete field is as follows:
PP, Horse, Jockey, Trainer, Morning Line Odds
