LeComte Stakes (gr. III) winner Mo Tom turned in an easy half-mile workout at Churchill Downs on April 29th to complete his major preparations for the Kentucky Derby.

With exercise rider Mario Garcia in the saddle, the son of Uncle Mo went the distance in :48.60 seconds, posting solid fractions of  :12.20, :24.40, and :36.60, meaning that he ran steadily throughout with furlong times ranging from :12 flat to :12.20. He galloped out five furlongs in 1:02.20 and six furlongs in 1:15.40.

“The work was fine, but I was a little disappointed in the track,” trainer Tom Amoss was quoted as saying in a Churchill Downs press release. “That was not the same track it was at 6 this morning and not the same track that you’ll have in the afternoon.”
