The unbeaten champion and Kentucky Derby favorite Nyquist took a spin over the main track at Churchill Downs for the first time on May 1st, jogging over a sloppy main track with exercise rider Jonny Garcia in the saddle.

The son of Uncle Mo, who won the Florida Derby (gr. I) on April 2nd to bring his career record to a perfect 7-for-7, arrived at Churchill Downs on April 30th after completing the majority of his pre-Derby training at Keeneland, where he breezed a mile on April 29th (click here for details).

Trained by Doug O’Neill, Nyquist is expected to train lightly at Churchill in the final days before the May 7th Kentucky Derby. “He jogged today and he’ll jog tomorrow,” O’Neill was quoted as saying in a Churchill Downs press release.

Nyquist is stabled in Barn 41, which has housed eight Derby winners in the last forty years, most recently Fusaichi Pegasus in 2000.
