Rachel’s Valentina Breezes Five Furlongs at Saratoga

Rachel’s Valentina, the second foal out of 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra, turned in another workout at Saratoga this morning as she prepares for her debut.

The two-year-old daughter of Bernardini breezed five furlongs in 1:02.65, which was the 11th-fastest of 17 morning workouts at that distance. The work was the second of her training career at five furlongs, and came eight days after a bullet half-mile breeze from the gate on July 11th.

Trained by Todd Pletcher for Stonestreet Farm, Rachel’s Valentina is likely to debut sometime during the Saratoga meet that begins on July 24th. The Saratoga conditions book available through Equibase.com shows that a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight for 2yo fillies is scheduled for July 24th, along with a similar 6 1/2-furlong maiden race on July 26th, and either race could be a possible target for Rachel’s Valetina’s first start.
