Runhappy, who turned in a spectacular performance to win the King’s Bishop Stakes (gr. I) at Saratoga this summer, is among the probable starters for the October 2nd Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix Stakes (gr. III) on opening day at Keeneland.
The three-year-old colt has won four of his five starts to date and drew national attention when he scored an upset victory in the seven-furlong King’s Bishop, winning by four lengths in the brilliant time of 1:20.54 seconds. Trained by Maria Borell, Runhappy has turned in a trio of workouts since then, most recently breezing five furlongs in a bullet :59.20 on September 22nd at Keeneland.
According to the Keeneland Barn Notes for September 26th, a large and talented group of horses is expected to face Runhappy in the Phoenix, led by 2014 Breeders’ Cup Sprint winner Work All Week. Holy Boss, winner of the Amsterdam Stakes (gr. III) and third in the King’s Bishop, is another expected starter, along with A. P. Indian, Alsvid, Barbados, Fast Anna, Nates Mineshaft, and Waco.
