Wise Dan Week, Part 2: The 2012 Breeders’ Cup Mile

Relive the race that made Wise Dan a superstar! In 2012, after winning the Woodbine Mile (gr. I) and Shadwell Turf Mile (gr. I), Wise Dan entered the Breeders’ Cup Mile (gr. I) at Santa Anita and turned in perhaps the greatest performance of his career to win decisively over an incredibly talented field. Among his beaten rivals were Animal Kingdom (Kentucky Derby winner and future Dubai World Cup winner), Obviously (one of the best milers in the U.S. at the time), Excelebration (a multiple group I winner in Europe) and Moonlight Cloud (a very talented filly from Europe that won several group I races against colts.) Even more amazing was the time that Wise Dan recorded in victory–a mile in 1:31.78, which was both a course and stakes record.
